Remember when you were little…

Our Christmas tree is up. It’s really cool. There are a lot of memories connected with the ornaments on that tree. It’s fun to decorate the tree and remember all the things connected with the ornaments. Each of the kids have gotten ornaments every year since they were born. There are ornaments made by the kids. We have ornaments that were made by best friends in Sweden. There are a couple of ornaments from before Lori and I were married. It’s almost like you can tell the story of our life as a family by these ornaments. Decorating the tree has become a time of remembrance for me. A wonderful ordinary, simple tradition that doesn’t have to be just a overinflated spasm of consumerism and greed. I sit now almost every night and look at the tree and remember, remember how faithful God has been, even when we haven’t. I remember how God has carried us through the darkest of times, horrible car accident, breast cancer, death of family members and friends and how blessed we are with a wonderful family, a awesome little community of faith,  good friends, jobs that we love, a house, all kinds of stuff.

Remembering God’s faithfulness and power brings me a sense of peace, which happens to be the Advent theme for this week.
